SkelaDB 0.0.1 release notes
The first self-hosted release of SkelaDB: serverless PostgreSQL 18 that runs in your own Kubernetes cluster and cloud account.

verify.md. Install: install.md.
What is in it
Databases
- PostgreSQL 18.4 with pgvector, in branches that suspend when idle and wake on the first connection, typically in one to two seconds.
- Object storage mode, the default: data lives in your bucket, commits are acknowledged by two of three WAL nodes and archived before trimming, and new branches share unchanged data so they are ready in seconds at any size.
- Dedicated disk mode as an explicit option: each branch on its own disk, with continuous WAL archiving and daily base backups to your bucket.
- Point-in-time restore into a new branch, from live or deleted branches.
- Up to three read replicas per branch, compute autoscaling within bounds you set, disk growth without downtime where your storage supports it.
Connections
- One TLS endpoint for every branch, with transaction pooling by default and session connections on request, SCRAM-SHA-256 authentication relayed to the database, per-branch source address lists, and login throttling.
- Customer roles are never superusers.
Operations
- One installer for AWS, Google Cloud, Azure and any Kubernetes cluster, driven by
a signed
release.envthat pins every image by digest. - Per-project storage identities with grants limited to the project’s prefix.
- Branch conditions and Kubernetes events that explain every state, gradual PostgreSQL image rollouts, authenticated metrics and alert rules.
- An uninstaller that keeps every database by default.
- An encrypted regional recovery bundle for whole-cluster recovery.
Console (optional)
- Organizations, members and per-project grants through your own WorkOS.
- Projects, branches, databases, roles, SQL editor, schema browser, restore, monitoring, alerts, network access, imports from database URLs and CSV, API keys.
- The
skelaCLI and theskela-mcpserver for agents, as signed binaries.
Licensing
- A signed license key is required to create databases; free for organizations under USD 1M annual revenue (licensing.md).
Supply chain
- Ten container images for linux/amd64 and linux/arm64, signed with the SkelaDB release key, each with signed SPDX and CycloneDX SBOMs and build provenance.
- Every image carries the license agreement and third-party notices.
- Images were scanned before release with no high or critical findings.
Upgrading
This is the first release. See upgrade.md for how later releases are applied.
Known limitations
See known-limitations.md, in particular: PostgreSQL 18 only, and the EKS, GKE and AKS profiles have not yet been certified on those managed services, so run your own acceptance before production there.
